Chicago chapter member Jason Schwartz, co-chair of the SABR Baseball Cards committee, has taken it upon himself to raise $25,000 for some great baseball-related causes. “How?” you ask. Turning his prized baseball card collection into art.

Earlier this month he launched Heavy J Studios, where donors to any of his eligible organizations receive unique “1 of 1” art cards of their favorite players. His first series of cards raised $500 toward his goal, and his second series of cards just launched last week.
The three main organizations Jason is supporting so far are the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Dave Parker Foundation (Parkinson’s), and the Kirk Gibson Foundation (Parkinson’s). However, he has also created cards in support of the Willie Stargell Foundation and the Jimmy Fund.
Most of his pieces, at least for now, can be had with a $25 donation to these organizations. However, he expects to make the biggest dent in his fundraising goal with higher end pieces that will go to auction.
Each piece Jason creates will be the only one of its kind, with donors receiving certificates of authenticity and entries on Jason’s public registry. We’ll check back in with Jason if and when he hits his ambitious goal. Is he worried that he doesn’t even have enough cards to get there? Um, have you seen his basement?! 🤣
